According to ECPD (Engineers' Council for Professional Development) engineering is the creative application of scientific principles to design or develop structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes, or works utilizing them singly or in combination; or to construct or operate the same with full cognizance of their design; or to forecast their behavior under specific operating conditions; all as respects an intended function, economics of operation and safety to life and property.
According this definition engineering is a wider concept than design which is part of it. Engineering's purpose is not only to create new machines or systems but also to operate and maintain existing ones.
Project management is also part of engineering. The Project Manager (PM) is an engineer whose main job is to manage and coordinate a design or construction project.
Some of the tasks of the PM are:
Review and correct design projects.
Coordinate and lead meetings with stakeholders.
Coordinate the site visits and surveys.
Lead construction works and manage construction sites.
Construction sites inspections.
